Phnom Penh, 28 February 2023 - The General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE) successfully organized the Consultative Meeting on Cross Border E-Commerce, with the facilitation support from the ARISE Plus Cambodiaproject and Swisscontact Cambodia.
Presided over by H.E. Dr. Kun Nhem, Minister Attached to Prime Minister and Director General of the GDCE, the meeting brought together representatives from the Ministry of Commerce, Cambodia Post, express operators and development partners to review and collect inputs for the improvement of regulations and procedures related to customs clearance and the ICT solution to facilitate effective and secure cross-border e-commerce.
During the meeting, the current regulations and procedures for express parcel trade and e-commerce were presented as the context for a new draft customs regulation on express shipments. The current customs IT tools, including the anticipated ASYHUB solution for pre-arrival processing, were highlighted as possible solutions to automate cross-border trade. Finally, the express and postal operators provided input on their operations, challenges, and requests in light of the current and envisioned express shipment clearance processes.
Co-financed by the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the ARISE Plus Cambodia project supports this initiative as part of the key support to the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia to improve better trade facilitation.
