Consultative Workshop on “TTRI's Strategic Business Plan 2024-2028”

Phnom Penh, 18 August 2023   ̶ Trade Training and Research Institute (TTRI) of the Ministry of Commerce (MoC), in cooperation with ARISE Plus Cambodia, concluded the first consultative workshop at the national level on “Strategic Business Plan (SBP) 2024-2028” on 16 August 2023.

The workshop aimed to gather technical inputs from relevant stakeholders to formulate the TTRI's strategic business plan for the next five years. This included setting strategic goals, defining business models and strategic actions, as well as identifying implementation mechanisms.

The TTRI, the multi-disciplinary department of the MoC, is mandated to provide training to relevant stakeholders in the trade and business sectors in Cambodia. The institute also serves as the research arm of the MoC, conducting research activities to support the development and advancement of trade and business in Cambodia.

The objective of this next five-year plan is to set out the key elements of the management framework to ensure the TTRI’s alignment with the mission, vision, and reform programs of the MoC. It also aims to enhance service delivery and transform the TTRI into a policy think tank that specializes in research and innovation related to trade development.

“Taking into account the shift of the global job market towards a more digital orientation and Cambodian’s 2030 and 2050 visions, the SBP 2024-2028 is designed to accelerate the implementation of policies and priority areas in line with the administrative reform of the Cambodian Government as well as to improve the business environment and operations”, said Her Excellency Kong Sithika, the MoC Under Secretary of State, during her opening remark.

“The capacity building, training, and research framework that will be outlined in this plan will be served as the implementation roadmap to ensure that all capacity development programs are relevant, sustainable, and effective”, she added.

Around 60 participants attended the workshop with representatives from all departments of the MoC, Special Economic Zone (SEZ), the private sector, and development partners. Key discussions focused on stakeholder engagement, TRRI's mission and vision, gender mainstreaming, and priority areas under the pillars of research and innovation, institutional development and training, extension services, and public-private partnerships.

The second consultative workshop at sub-national level will be conducted in Siem Reap province on August 29, 2023.

Co-funded by the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the ARISE Plus Cambodia supports this initiative as part of its key support to the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia in strengthening institutional capacities and improving regulatory practices with a view to achieving a more transparent, predictable and competitive trade environment.
