Dissemination Workshop on “National Cashew Policy 2022-2027”

Phnom Penh, 2 November 2023 – Co-organized by the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) and ARISE Plus Cambodia project, the dissemination workshop on “National Cashew Policy 2022-2027” was fruitfully held in three target provinces, including Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, and Preah Vihear, on 24-26October 2023.

The workshop was presided over by H.E. Reach Ra, the MoC Secretary of State, and H.E. Kong Sithika, the MoC Under Secretary of State, and attended by representatives from relevant ministries and institutions at both national and sub-national levels, development partners, traders, processors and exporters in the cashew sector.

The workshop aimed to introduce the "National Cashew Policy 2022-2027" to stakeholders in the cashew sector to better understand the policy and its strategies, as well as to foster cooperation among stakeholders and institutions to promote the Cambodian cashew sector nationally and globally, expand cashew exports, and access new market opportunities.

The National Cashew Policy 2022–2027 was initiated and prepared by the MoC in cooperation with inter-ministries and institutions and approved by the Plenary Meeting of the Council of Ministers on January 13, 2023. The policy was officially launched on June 14, 2023.

The policy will serve as a key roadmap for the development of Cambodia's cashew sector with inclusive competitiveness, promoting competitiveness, diversification, processing, exports, and value-added, while ensuring sustainable economic development, job creation, reduced migration, and poverty reduction.

Co-funded by the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the ARISE Plus Cambodia project supports the initiative of the MoC to widely disseminate the policy and enhance public outreach. This also plays a role in supporting the government's efforts to promote this potential agro-industrial crop and the commitment in turning Cambodia into a major cashew producer and supplier in local, regional, and global markets.

As the next step, we plan to organize this kind of dissemination workshop in the other two provinces, Steung Treng and Kratie in earlier next year. At the same time, we are planning for the Cashew Day by the end of this year in Kampong Thom province.
