Siem Reap, 6 December 2023 – The Siem Reap – Oddor Meanchey Chamber of Commerce (SROCC), in cooperation with ARISE Plus Cambodia, conducted a workshop on “Updates on Business Registration Procedure and Tax Obligations” in Siem Reap province on 5 December 2023. The event attracted up to approximately 150 participants, who are SMEs and concerning business association representatives.
The workshop was presided over by Mr. Chao Maomony, Branch Manager of Siem Reap Tax Department, Oknha Dr. Huy Pheav, SROCC President and Mr. Till Ahnert, Head of ARISE Plus Cambodia.
Business formalization and taxation are among the main concerns and challenges for the SMEs in conducting their business. Particularly, the SMEs based in provinces tend to have limit or no knowledge on these matters. With the new tax reform and modernization, the government has implemented more stringent measures to ensure tax compliance and business registration. At the same time, the government has committed to provide more support and incentives to the private companies, including tax exemptions on profits and properties.
It is vital for taxpayers to be aware of these changes and be able to assess how these changes may affect their tax position and tax obligations and compliance process.
In response to these concerns, the workshop was held with the aims to raise awareness among business community over the necessary procedures and requirements for tax registration and the importance of complying with tax regulations in Cambodia.
In addition to the remarks from key speakers, the participants had the opportunity to learn from the experts from the Provincial Department of Taxation on important topics such as tax registration procedures, taxpayer responsibilities, tax declaration schedules, tax pre-filing online application, and taxes on properties and unused land. The workshop concluded with a panel discussion where the participants were able to ask specific questions or seek clarifications.
With the financial support from the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), this workshop session was organized as part of the activity series under the partnership of the ARISE Plus Cambodia and the SROCC to support Cambodian SMEs on trade-related information and advocacy.
